Spring Is the Starting Gun
March and April mark the transition from slow winter to peak rental season across most of the US. Spring break, warmer weather, travel season ramping up — your fleet needs to be ready. This is the time for a thorough spring clean and mechanical check before the busy months hit. Waiting until you're fully booked to deal with deferred maintenance is how you end up with a breakdown during peak season.
Deep Detail: The Annual Reset
Once a year, ideally in spring, every fleet vehicle should get a comprehensive professional detail. This isn't just a clean — it's a full treatment: paint decontamination, clay bar, paint protection film or sealant, interior deep clean including upholstery treatment, engine bay clean (relevant for older vehicles), and rim and tire treatment. Think of it as hitting reset on the car's presentation. A properly detailed car looks close to new and guests absolutely notice.
Mechanical Spring Checklist
Brakes: inspect pads and rotors, especially after a winter of salt and grit. Tires: pressure, tread depth, and rotation if due. Battery: test and replace if marginal. Wiper blades: replace annually — spring rain makes good wipers essential. Cabin air filter: replace if overdue — a fresh filter makes A/C more effective as weather warms. Check all belts and hoses for winter wear. This list takes about two hours at a shop and sets every vehicle up for a reliable spring/summer run.
Update Your Listing Photos
If your current listing photos were taken in fall or winter, spring is the perfect time to refresh them. New photos of a freshly detailed car in good natural light will outperform older, darker-season photos. Updated photos also send a freshness signal to Turo's algorithm. Win-win. Take a Saturday morning, detail the car, drive to a nice location, and spend 30 minutes getting great new photos.
Review and Refresh Your Listing Description
When did you last update your listing text? Spring is a good time to review it. Is it still accurate? Is your pricing strategy current? Are there any outdated references or information that should be updated? A refreshed description that accurately reflects the current car, your current rules, and your current pricing communicates that this is an active, professionally managed listing — which it should be.
