How to Set Up Turo Instant Book Without Worrying About Who's Driving Your Car

Instant Book Is a Revenue Lever — Use It

Listings with Instant Book enabled consistently outperform request-to-book listings in Turo search rankings. Guests prefer the immediacy. You get more exposure. More exposure means more bookings. The tradeoff — losing the ability to manually approve each guest — sounds scary until you understand the filters Turo gives you to automatically screen guests. Used correctly, Instant Book gives you the best of both worlds: high visibility with reasonable safety guardrails.

The Filters That Actually Matter

When enabling Instant Book, configure these requirements: minimum approved trips (set to 1–3 for a first filter), verified government ID (always on), minimum Turo rating (set to 4.5 or higher if you want to be conservative), and driver age minimum (25+ is common for hosts worried about young drivers on insurance terms). These filters automatically screen out guests who don't meet your baseline criteria without you having to manually review every request.

Trip Approval Screen: Still There

Even with Instant Book enabled, Turo shows you a brief window before the trip starts where you can review the booking and, in certain circumstances, decline. This isn't a full request-to-book review, but it's a safety net. If something about a booking looks off after the fact — the guest's profile has changed, there are new red flags — you have recourse.

Your Listing Rules Are Your First Defense

Instant Book doesn't mean anything-goes. Your listed rules still apply. If you prohibit pets, smoking, out-of-state travel, or additional drivers — those rules are binding even on Instant Book trips. If a guest violates them, it's a policy violation claim. Set your rules clearly and enforce them through documentation and the platform's claim system.

When to Turn Off Instant Book

Some hosts toggle off Instant Book around major events or holiday weekends when they want more control over who books a scarce calendar window. This is valid — during peak demand, being selective makes sense. But for the other 40 weekends of the year, Instant Book with good filters is almost always the better revenue choice.
